A very nice meeting tonight. The BIG NEWS: We are on track to gain fiscal sponsorship! Paperwork has been filled out and we await news this week. We also welcomed a new inaugural member, Madeline!
We are looking to gussy up our logo search. We had one entry, and are looking to make the logo collaborative and streamlined so that as soon as we are fiscally able, we can start selling merch and fund raising.
New neighbors with co-op building experience are interested in teaming up with HFC, and we are eager for them to join us. If you know anyone who would like to be a member/owner, please share our FB page!
It feels like the time is right for growth. In that effort, we would like to take a field trip to the biggest grocery co-op in CT, the Willimantic Food Co-op. If you have a day in August or September that you would like to go on a field trip to see them, please let us know. We are thinking one weekday morning and another visit on a weekend.
What is a Food Cooperative?
Co-ops are rooted in the local communities they serve. Compared to traditional supermarkets, food co-ops give more money back to the local economy. Grocery cooperatives do business with farmers in the area, stocking up on fresh produce and specialty items you can't find at a conventional store.
What are the benefits of food cooperatives?
Increases supply of local and organic produce. Easier for people to shop by foot or by bike by providing outlets in residential areas. Provides food that often has less packaging, and generates less waste.
